WHO AM I?
Felene M. Cayetano is a Belizean, Garifuna, Librarian, Author, Mother, Photographer, Screenwriter and Director.
I was born in Belize and spent my earlier years in a small Garifuna town with my grandparents. In my 10th year of life I moved to Los Angeles, California. While coping with homesickness I read widely from nearby libraries then started writing poetry as a coping mechanism.
As a teenager, I expanded into writing short stories to piece together family stories and to make sense of my nostalgia. Ten years later, I became a visual storyteller using photography and film to tell my stories in new ways. There is often a female protagonist in a small town or village in my stories for adults. Because I have sons, the children's stories I write tend to have male protagonists.
